She is interested in videotaping news releases to use on RSS feeds. People come listen to them in their car. They would also be useful for people who are vision impaired and could be broadcast on KUMD. Sue said to brainstorm about it and talk to Bill Payne and Linda Deneen. Zach suggested talking to Professor Eric H. Olsen who is a former reporter for KARE 11. Sue thought maybe it could be kicked off sometime in January. For the Bridge, she is getting more photos for Matt, working with Brett to take photos of Ianni Hall, writing the captions for the Ianni Hall Bridge story, finishing the Chancellor’s column, and finishing the strategic plan story. She is working on the strategic plan rollout (news conference, mailing and bookmarks) and the Ianni Hall dedication. She’s working on getting a truck for the State Fair and other State Fair arrangements. She’s helping on the Twins event.

She will meet with a possible intern, Eliza on Friday. She is working on getting a new student to do Currents (good idea Kathleen) and getting a place for Zach to stay so he can come back a week early. She is working with Lucy to secure the team through March 2.

Kathleen set up the homepage for next week and finished the homepage for this week. After the meeting she revised the Tweed storytelling news item and rewrote the Eddy piece. (beautifully, I might add.)

Christiana is writing the class of 1951 stories for the Bridge. She is sending a business announce to the campus about SWAT team practice at UMD. She is working with KBJR to film the precambrian camp. She and Kathleen took the NRRI tour.

Abby finished Tim Bates and did short descriptions of the championship wins for the Bridge.

Matt did an Ianni Hall dedication invitation, a T-shirt for Welcome week, and a lot of work on the Bridge (which is beautiful.) He finished the bookmark. Campus Directory starts next week!

To plan for: We need to make a flyer for new faculty packets about How to Get Your News and Events Published. We should schedule a training session for September and get it into the handout. IDEA. What if Abby looks through the last year of clippings and writes down the names of UMD faculty who are quoted. Then, let’s invite them to join the Expert’s List. I noticed many prominent faculty aren’t listed yet.

June 22

Just Matt and Kathleen at the meeting today. Matt had a copy of the Night/Day ad. He'll talk to Cheryl regarding whether she wants to highlight one event at the top as we usually have done or if we should highlight one event in the body of the ad with an extra photo.

Matt was able to post a new picture on the events calendar page. Yeah. He said it is no problem to either change the picture once or twice a month or have a cycle of three like other UofM sites do. I imagine that often times we could use pictures from events that are covered on the homepage.

Matt brought the revised Strat Plan up to Denny and is waiting for more changes. Matt is also waiting for changes on the Thank You wrap. In the meantime, he is changing photos to CMYK. Matt is meeting next week regarding an Alumni identifier.

Matt is researching art museums in Minnesota and also looking at Wikipedia editing.

Matt is working on the About Us page and still wrestling with making the RSS Feed pretty.

He is working on the Strat Plan brochure. It is no longer accordian style. Now it will be a booklet. He will be adding text from Denny on the SWOT portion of the strat plan and asked if Christiana and Kathleen would edit it. We said "sure."

Matt did up the ad for the Hermantown Star. We reviewed it. Wording is the same as the ad in the Bridge so it seems fine.

Christiana and Matt have been talking to Lisa Fitzpatrick about the UMD YouTube channel. Lisa would really like PR and Marketing to take that over. We will discuss with Cheryl when she gets back.

We brainstormed on video ideas. We would like to have students and departments contribute a number of videos. Ideas were as follows:

He is also working on the Foundation Thank You wrap (yum). He has been working on the RSS feed. Lastly he put all the 20 words on the media release page (which now looks gorgeous.

April 15

I have everything installed on my new computer and it's working great!

Edited and sent Christiana some photos for her story on the Planetarium. Christiana and I might work on an extra photo on Monday.

The UMD News blog is looking really good! Added categories and a few links (on the right side). We can add as many as you would like... any ideas for new additions? I would also like to add a few more pages to the blog to make it a little more interactive. Any ideas for other pages?

I updated the story (A Global Energy Action Forum) on the homepage for Howard this morning(4/15). (changed a photo, removed a person and added another).

New Logo page that I mentioned in the previous post. I also got in and fixed the SCSE Logo for Mechanical Engineering. I also added wordmarks for UMD on the logo page! If you need any other various on it let me know.

Last but not least. I am working on the Experts List still... I started working on the Layout. It is in a testing format at www.d.umn.edu/currents/experts/newex. After I get more information I will have to meet with Andy and figure out how to get it all to work right. Any input on layout/creative is cool with me! I can't really find a photo for "Experts" so I thought silhouettes of UMD's many "experts" would be interesting. I think I will redo the one that is currently on there before I am finished, but just to get the idea it's there.

I am happy to do anyone's photos for stories rather than have you bother with it! I can bring my camera in and edit them for you!

Logos

I updated the logos on the main logos pager today. If you have to use them in the future try to redownload them the website. They will be high quality and look better on the web.

April 12 - one day later

First and foremost, we welcome Matt to the team. (Your jersey, like your computer, is on order).

Cheryl is putting the finishing touches on the NSF project. Kathleen and Christiana will proof it. Her next big project is writing the Paul Vesterstein article. Jocelyn Larocque isn't available until May so that interview will need to be put off a bit.

Kathleen will email Fatima about the Amy Shuster article. Kathleen received an ipad pic from Michelle in the med school and has asked Fatima to send her the article so she can put it on a Dreamweaver page.

Zach hasn't heard from Sam Helland so that article may or may not happen. He has been working on Mill City talking points, and he has the interview with Jim Eishen coming up.

Mandee couldn't attend the meeting but had updated Kathleen that she has rescheduled with Sarah Pollema for this Saturday.

Christiana went over the Brief. She will add info about the planetarium renovation at the end of the Odyssey media release. Kathleen will forward an email about the renovation to her. Carol Bock said no to an article. Christiana will be interviewing Brenna next week. She met with Randall Hanson this week about farming.

Christiana said that the UMD blog is up on the DNT. She wrote an opening blog and will post about the hockey party. After that she will put up the article about Storytelling at the Tweed.

Matt was able to fix the color on the UMD blog. He is going to work on removing the ads that are on it now, although that may need to be done on the DNT's side. He will call about his computer. Expert list postings are coming in. He will talk to Andy about his being able to put the media releases up on the UMD website.

Kathleen is writing the Emily Gaarder article. She took a picture of John Arthur's class and is just waiting for his revisions. She is meeting with Linh Scally, the CEHSP grad, next week.

Thursday, April 7, 2011

April 5

We reviewed upcoming articles. Next week we will put up Jerry Moore, AAAS, and Honors Energy Policy.
