Team Meeting 12/21

Cheryl came at the very end of the meeting. She will, no doubt, blog her update. Zach was unable to make the meeting. Kat wasn't able to be here either but here is her update:

On Wednesday Kat finished and sent off her puppetry article to be edited again. On Thursday she worked on Winter Bridge articles and did some research on vloging. Monday she finished the information for the Winter Bridge for the AIA Chicago award and the UROP Puppetry story.

Jess worked on updates for the Bridge. She also spoke to Cheryl today about a vlogging internship. Jess will write the press release based on Zach's language ap article.

Kathleen has written the 25 words and cropped pictures for the two articles that are going up tomorrow. She worked with Christiana on making sure that we had the most up to date version of the Professor Chee article. Next Tuesday Kathleen will be interviewing Shawn Grund who is a Peace Corp volunteer in Rwanda.

Christiana is waiting for approval on the hockey ranking article. She will be blogging a couple of stories on the Area Voices site tomorrow. She also is applying for her job and updating her portfolio. She was sorry to say that she couldn't find a professor who would talk about Santa.

Team Meeting 12/15

Jess is working with Betty today on putting together branding task force binders. She is also working on researching an internship (re: the vlogging project) and wants to talk to Cheryl about the process.

Kat received quotes from Janelle so she can finish the puppetry UROP article. She is also working on vlogging research.

Zach said the Violent Paradox UROP article is almost done. He spoke to Eric H. Olsen about the vlogging project and he was interested in it.

Cheryl has a meeting next week regarding how to do a project with multiple departments: ie. the process for the Bridge, Annual Report, Chancellor invites, etc. She will be putting together a timeline.

We are going into the next Bridge. Cheryl hopes to have it mailed the first two weeks of Feb.

Cheryl is also working on the fourth Fox News segment. She was thinking a story about international programs. Everyone liked that idea.

Cheryl also did a powerpoint for Betty.

Christiana is working on a number of news releases including the latest award for Swenson. She is waiting for correction on the Master of Civil Engineering. She is also working with FUSE Duluth regarding expanding the campus connection beyond LSBE.

Kathleen has been working on homepage changes. Edited the stories, cropped photos, and wrote the 25 words x 4 for the homepage. She has also started the next issue of Currents this week. She has been getting spring semester schedules from the students (thank you) and will put the January calendar and marketing/comm webpage asap. Kathleen also worked on the copy for the Strat Plan e-newsletter yesterday.

We reviewed what we need for edited versions of the UROP articles for the Bridge and edited versions of homepage stories for UMD Updates in the Bridge. After the meeting, Kathleen updated the new document Winter Bridge which incorporates the UROP info and the UMD Update info and links. She sent an email to the team telling them about that.

Cheryl asked Christiana to get back to television reporter regarding a math or physics professor to talk to about Santa!

Team Meeting - 12/7

Cheryl had left for Chicago. Sue attended the meeting.

Zach worked with Cheryl yesterday to get pictures of students with ipads. The ipad story is now up. He has to make one correction to a caption. He has his UROP interview on the violence paradox tomorrow. He has been doing some research on the subject. He also put up posters on the holocaust trip study abroad for Cheryl.

Last Thursday, Kat spent time looking for a woman study picture. She has been working on the puppetry UROP article. She is waiting for the student to answer some questions.

Jessica and Kat are working on the alert system story. However the professor hasn't gotten back to them so it will probably have to been pushed back to January. She is waiting for pictures on the Jean Baptiste story. She will be sending the story to his advisor for feedback. Today she was researching Rwanda for Kathleen for an upcoming article. She got the internship with PBS for next semester. She said she'd get us a tour when she is on the "inside."

Kathleen has been working on Currents. The last one for 2011 went out yesterday. She has been working on homepage changes: wrote 25 words, cropped photos, sent the changes, and updated the index. Christiana and Kathleen interviewed Joseph Maiolo yesterday. Kathleen revised the article, Christiana edited it, then sent the link to Joseph. The plan is to put that and the "point to" NRRI article up tomorrow. Kathleen has been getting the student schedules for next semester. Zach will send his as soon as he has it. Kathleen got quotes from John Arthur on Monday and finished her Kenyan UROP article. She sent the link to the student and John for changes. She still hasn't been able to connect with an LSBE UROP student. She's been working with ITSS to get her computer networked to the new color printer and get Matt's computer networked to the old color printer (now in his office).

Sue said that two of the six 15 second videos are done. They will be used by television stations, Amsoil Arena, My Nine, posted on websites and YouTube, and shared with alumni relations, donors, and admissions. Sue would like to have a Red Carpet Event and invite the students who were in the videos. The Branding Task Force meets next Thursday. Invitations have gone out. She would like to do a survey of the campus and the region about UMD branding. The deadline for completion is the end of spring semester but at exactly what stage the process needs to be in is yet to be determined.

Christiana has been working on the Carmen Latterell news release. She has also been working on the American Blues news release. She sent it to Chicago papers and also to alumni relations. She spoke to Lisa in CE about the certifications for gambling addiction and sustainable food. She has a couple of new projects: an award that Swenson labs received and the UMD Women's Hockey Team jersey auction. She had an idea about vlogging (video blogging, not a typo). She is interested in videotaping news releases to use on RSS feeds. People come listen to them in their car. They would also be useful for people who are vision impaired and could be broadcast on KUMD. Sue said to brainstorm about it and talk to Bill Payne and Linda Deneen. Zach suggested talking to Professor Eric H. Olsen who is a former reporter for KARE 11. Sue thought maybe it could be kicked off sometime in January. Christiana set up a brainstorming session with the students on Monday morning.
