Team meeting 7/6

Matt was working on the strategic plan and couldn't attend the meeting.

Cheryl is interviewing for the PR assistant on 7/12. She will be on the Blue Heron tomorrow and with the Chippewa elders on Friday. Also on Friday, NSF will be interviewing Dr. Black about the Chippewa language project.

Cheryl will be out of the office on 7/14 and 7/15. She will be in the Twin Cities interviewing the McCrays and also President Kaler. She is also going to see if she can interview Jesse Bodell at Periscope.

Cheryl started working on the directory and will give us an updated organizational chart so we know who is who.

Kathleen has been working on the homepage changes and all that entails (photos cropped, 60 words written). She has been doing a lot of editing recently. Also checking currents, umdnews, and updating the story ideas doc. She started writing the article on Anne Dutton for the Bridge. The Viz lab article was put off as the Great Lakes Aquarium doesn't have the exhibit up. She hopes to interview Lisa Fitzpatrick next week so the article will be ready to go when the exhibit is open

Christiana worked with Abby to finish the Market Day article. She also finished the RSOP article and made some edits on the Timo article. She is working on the SCOPE article. She is waiting to hear from Mark Phillips for the Bridge article.

For the upcoming Brief, Christiana will include the alumni Saints game and NSF. For Area Voices blog, she will include Market Day and Glensheen events on Wednesdays. She'll also add a note in the Market Day homepage article that this is open to the community. She and Abby have been working on the UMD Wikipedia page which is looking very good.

  1. I thought I commented yesterday... hmm....

    Oh well.

I've been working on the envelope for the Strategic Plan.

Fixed a few things on the plan and sent it to get printed. I will pick it up and have it ready for Cheryl tomorrow.

Kate brought me some more information about the wine party.

Carrie brought me some information about the Bulldog cocktail party in DC.

I started working on the invites.

Checked the Wikipedia pages to see if anything has changed... nothing much. It looks like a few people found Dr. Black's page though.

  2. Picked up the Strategic Plan from the print shop right away. organized and taped it together.

    Finished up the envelope.

Checked with the Mail room to see if the envelope would be sendable. it can be sent first class but they also gave me a number to contact a bulk mailing company in Duluth. I will call on Monday and see if anything has to be changed.

Made two invites for the Beaujolais and made an invitation option for Development. Sent both of them to Cheryl, Kate and Carrie.

Uploaded and burned the Blue Heron Video to a DVD and gave it to Cheryl.

Organized the extra computers in my office. Now it's a little more usable.

Met with Denny and Cheryl about the Strategic Plan and numbers for the final printing.

    probably more...

  3. I put the finishing touches on the Anne Dutton article. Christiana proofed it and then I emailed it to Anne. Requested a picture too.

Checked currents and added new items onto the dreamweaver page. Also checked umdnews and updated the story ideas doc. Updated the team calendar with a couple of days that Abby will be out.

Contacted Susan Mulholland about her dig project. Per the secretary in her office, I emailed Susan.

Started working on homepage changes for tomorrow. I wrote the NSF 60 words and cropped the photo. Proofed Christiana's SCOPE article.

  4. Yikes! I have not blogged in a thousand years.

In a nutshell...NSF, Wikipedia, very few news releases but I have been doing more Homepage Stories and projects, as well as blog entries (about 3 or 4 per week).

Today...worked on the SCOPE Homepage Story and Kathleen is in the process of final edits. I contacted Brenda Fischer, Lita Wallace, Mike and June at NRRI, and Adam at the Twin Cities campus. Fischer for the SCOPE project, Lita for the bike/walk statistics, Mike and June for Brief entry in the fall for NRRI, and Adam for a possible Brief entry for UMD but the lead was actually about the Twin Cities campus, Dr. Zink, who published a book about rural doctors--it was a great idea but not a spotlight for UMD.

And now I'm going to work on the Alumni Saints Game news release scheduled for this week and try not to worry about my interview looming on the horizon (one hour to go...)

  5. Homepage changes are ready to go, and I am poised to send out the email to Andy. I am just waiting for approval from Cheryl and Christiana on their articles. Index is updated. I just need to "Put" it when I get the O.K.

Checked currents and umdnews email. Updated story docs. Edited a statement to the media for Cheryl.

Touched base with Susan Mack and Carrie about their donor articles. I contacted Ginger Johnson in Financial Aid about UMD being military friendly. The Veterans office here is closed until 9/6.

  6. Yesterday changed the Alumnus spelling.

Prepared the Strategic Plan for printing and burned a few copies of the disk.

Edited the envelope so it worked a little better.

Finished and sent another copy of the DC invite.

Am working on another DC invite and another Gala invite. Trying to do something really far out there. Very different.

Checked currents and updated the Experts List. Fixed a few problems with it.

Talked to someone at HPER for a while about her server settings??

Started editing the Campus directory that Abby finished. Realized I was missing fonts and started looking for them. Still can't find them... Going to just switch the font to one I have.

    Updated Wikipedia for Cheryl.

    It's done!

    Wikipedia looks awesome. New photos.

  7. This is Cheryl's post from yesterday. For some reason, she is having trouble posting.

    LAST WEEK
Thanks for everything you all did for the NSF visit last week. It
could not have been better, (except for the Fitgers fiasco.) I had to
do the finance portion of getting the videographer paid and letting
the Education department know about the switched dates at Fitgers. My
most hated area: finance. And the last campus directory vendor shorted
us $500. Had to work on that. Grrr.

On Monday web team had a presentation by AT&T about making our top
homepage pages smart phone friendly. Smart phone sales are climbing as
compared to laptops and tablets. How about a homepage story on this
with students in the fall. We can get national stats, UMD stats and do
    student interviews.

Abby and I made a movie about last year's State Fair and I found State
Fair pics. BTW, a UM-TC video production team might make a video at
this year's State Fair with President Kahler and Dr. Black. I asked
them to do it and they seem pleased with the assignment.

Yesterday I wrote the NSF homepage story and contacted folks for approvals.

The strategic plan is at the printers! Good work, Matt. We may have to
help get them out the door. 140 to the departments and a mailing to
folks invited and attending the community sessions.

Fox news wants to do a monthly education feature on UMD. Also a
monthly panel on education. There is a meeting next week.

Last night I attended a forum on city taxes with the new SA president
Hannah Mumm. She's great. Should we do a profile of the new SA
    leadership?

Today I want to get the campus directory info emailed and mailed to
the people to make the updates.

We do such great work! Thank you all for making it fun. I am getting
great feedback about our team. The campus is really impressed.
