May 10th

We reviewed the homepage articles. Today faculty awards/retirees and the orchard articles are going up. Next week, we have the article about Brenna Oelfke going up and possibly some of the others written about graduates if they have been picked up by the media.

Christiana reviewed the Brief. This week will be Commencement and the Senate honoring the UMD Bulldogs. A special issue of the Brief later this month will highlight Glensheen events.

Zach has been writing short descriptions for the Random Person Project. He also found some job descriptions for the Government Liaison position.

Matt is working on the Strategic Plan Action Plan booklet. This will go to regents, deans, faculty, visitors, and possibly community leaders. He will put a how to edit web pages on google docs.

Mandee wrote 20 words for all of the news releases going back to the beginning of the year. Christiana will forward that to Matt.

Cheryl found the link to send media releases to hometown newspapers so we can proceed with that. The campus directory company is pulling out so she is looking at alternatives. She assigned Zach a special investigative report on students and "video" games for over the summer.

  1. I cross trained Christiana on the steps involved in changing homepage articles. Next week, she'll change them (under my supervision) so she can go through the steps. We wrote 60 words, cropped a photo, the whole nine yards.

Worked on the list of Bridge alumni and donor articles for the DO's. Trying to streamline it so it doesn't overwhelm anyone. Sent it to Cheryl and Christiana. I edited Cheryl's email and sent it back to her.

Took notes at the team meeting and posted them.

  2. The Sarah Pollema article is ready to go. She approved it and I made the changes.

I wrote "the words" for Christiana for an RSS feed of news releases.

I helped Cheryl determine how many ads were in the Campus Directory.

  3. Here I am blogging! Thanks to all for keeping it up without me. Just came from Vince's retirement event. Wow, we are loosing institutional memory.
Three more days and I'm out of here. It seems really under control and I thank you all for that.

    Here's my 2do list:
call NSF to check on proposal, call Jim Glowacki in Virginia about June 7 trip with Dr. Black. Pitch Jocelyn Larocque to WDIO, review Campus Directory proposal, polish Branding/Marketing proposal, write a separate undergrad and grad news release to pass out at each commencement. Do-able!

  4. Updated the D.O. article list for Cheryl for her meeting with the D.O.'s

Spent some time this morning streamlining the story ideas google document. It's a lot cleaner and easier to understand.

    Proofed the Education press release.

Attended the Ad Fed lunch and learned about the Random Person Project.

Put together a list of the things I will work on while Cheryl is overseas. I emailed Abby to confirm about Monday and emailed Fatima about Amy Shuster. The team met later in the day to review everything.

Bye, Mandee. We will miss you. Bye, Zach. We will see you next fall. Bye, Cheryl. Have fun on foreign soil.

  5. My last blog! I helped Cheryl get organized for her trip today. Today was my last day and then I'm moving back to the Cities on Saturday.

I will miss you all and it's been great working with you!

  6. Commencement was a blast. I took a bunch of pics and posted them on the Official UMD Alumni Facebook Page. Christiana, if you'd like to post them on the blog, they are in a commencement2011pics folder on my desktop. Enjoyed Cathy Annette. Didn't get to talk to Sam Helland much. Whew. It was a week. Two lunch meetings, two commencements and a commencement dinner.

I sent Dr. Black the marketing proposal. Cleaned my office, my desktop and I have NO emails (for a few minutes).

Could someone print a story ideas report for me every Monday or Tuesday? THX!

Christiana, thanks for watering my plants. The spiky one doesn't need it till I get back, the other three get it once a week.

    I'm off!
