Team Meeting 10/5

Jessica has both of her articles up on the homepage! She is now researching an article about UMD facebook pages. She will be looking into some demographics.

Jessica spoke to and emailed Olaf Kuhlke today about CLA UROPs. Hopefully he will send those shortly.

Kat is working on Currents, and she put up posters for Cheryl.

Zach has been working on the Julie Etterson article. He is now working on the fisheries contest article.

Christiana has contacted SFA about the ASL club signing for The Miracle Worker and connecting that play to the larger community. She is still waiting for Heartwalk stats in order to send out that news release.

Regarding news releases, Christiana is working on one for the faculty art show, homecoming and Julie Etterson. She is working a Biz Buzz for Shane Courtland. She is meeting with Rachel Gilbertson tomorrow regarding Food Inc. She is working on next weeks Brief: NRRI, Eddy Lecture, and Julie Etterson.

She and Zach are going to the farm tomorrow (they got rained out last week) for Champ photos. Christiana also talked briefly about the Bulldog statue initiative.

Cheryl is working on the job description for the fulltime graphic designer. She is working on background info for Sue regarding the history of the Block M.

She is working on a piece for Twin Cities donors. We've been asked to take over the You Tube video page. We need to do a 30 second video UMD video. She will research what's been done before and will probably do an RFP on that.

Governor is coming on Friday. We are waiting to see if we need to do a news release on that. We may need to do a message piece on the American Indian Learning Resource Center. President Kaler is coming to the campus on 10/27 & 10/28.

Kathleen spent some time today working on the story ideas doc. Homepage changes went up today and Currents was sent out yesterday.

We reviewed UROPs for the Winter Bridge. We set due dates of 11/1 and 12/1 with 12/15 as the final drop-dead date for all Bridge articles.

  1. Monday: I finished the Kendra Eisenschenk article and it was posted Tuesday.

Homecoming also went live on Tuesday and hit the homepage today.

    Today:

I picked up champ, and began research on Facebook groups of UMD. I will continue researching the piece and begin interviews with various students and faculty around campus next week.

I spoke with Olfa Kuhlke and received the UROP information from CLA this afternoon.

I will begin the UROP article on the Greece expedition with Cheryl as soon as we can schedule an interivew.

  2. Today I attended the Homecoming Committee meeting. We went over finalized details for the upcoming events.

I am working on the "Facebook Pages at UMD" article. I have contacted the Office of Admissions in order to speak with whomever maintains their webpage to find out why they chose to use a page to begin with. I left a message.

I will speak with the Communication Club and ask them why they choose to communicate their events through Facebook as a second interview.

  3. Today I did some research into Ahmed A. Heikal's lab and some background information on his research for Cheryl, and added the quote from Sharon Moen into the homepage story on the Sea Grant cooking contest.

  4. Three news releases sent out today...Robert Kenner/Heartwalk/Homecoming. Sent to media and to Matt for posting.

Two more compiled, needing edits: Julie Etterson/Jean Perrault. Both are ready to go to media but I would like to hear back from both Julie and Jean to make sure they are happy with the wording.

    Working on next week's Brief.

Since I will be in the cities tomorrow (Wed), I plan to bring my laptop and in-between meetings I will work on the Brief, the Area Voices Blog, and if I hear back about the above news releases, I will also send those out to the media. I have all of the contact information via internet. Oh what a neat world we live in!

Great work this week, team! A big thank you to all the students--especially to Jessica for returning the Champ outfit and Brett's camera. Thank you!

Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone. See you Thursday!

  5. Wow, I'm blogging. Yesterday Cheryl, Christiana and I met and reviewed story ideas through December. After that, I spent a considerable amount of time updating everything. We only needed two new articles for today so I changed dates on a couple of article and alerted Zach and Jessica to those changes after updating Cheryl and Christiana. Then checked umdnews, added more stuff, and so it goes.

I finished the Robert Kenner/Food Week article and sent it to Emily Norenberg and Rachel Gilbertson for corrections. I got those back and made the changes.

Worked with Kat a bit on Currents. That is going well.

Today, I edited Cheryl's Cluster article. I wrote the 60 words and cropped photos. Sent changes to Andy and updated the index.

I sent UMD fact change request memos out today. I gave them a deadline of Nov. 1.

I worked on Currents. Kat still has a lot to do tomorrow. There is a lot of info for Currents.

I bought tag board then sent out an email to the team telling them they could pick up their tag board and a bulldog face from my office. Deadline to bring your creature in is no later than 8:30 am on Mon. Oct. 17.

  6. A few big issues have been occupying my time. Governor Dayton was on campus last Friday and Sue and Betty and I did a lot of prep. We did a UROP handout, a FACTS handout and a mining clusters handout.

Zach and I finished the Julie Etterson story and I worked on the Mining Clusters story. Sue and I worked on the story about the SCSE/Med School pharmaceutical company contract.

I've set up two UROP interviews with Jessica: Mysteries with Joellyn Rock and Ahmed Heikal and his molecular microscope. Also set up the interview with Maureen Tobin Stanley and Zack.

Have got two places giving us proposals for the 30 sec tv spot, ProVideo and Swim creative. We should have something from them both on Friday.

Also looking at the Annual Report. We need it mailed by the end of November. It will have all of the components: email, html, flip book, postcard. Matt and I met last night on a design concept. Sue hired Jim Heffernan to write the copy. I will get some prices soon.

Am helping a professor with a lecture today. Loving the mild weather. Walked home from the SPAT OUT last night and it was warm. Soft. No wind. Sublime.
