Cheryl said that Sue Banovetz, our new director of external affairs, will be here Monday and then be starting the following Monday.
Kathleen has been working on Currents, homepage changes which went up yesterday, training Katarina and Jessica, and setting up the team schedule for the semester.
Matt is working on the menu and program for the Ianni Hall dedication. There are more changes. Betty will bring the documents up to her meeting with Lucy to get some of Matt's questions answered. He is working on invites and envelopes, the campus directory and the Bridge website.
Cheryl said that the Bridge is at the printer as is the Bridge mailer. The campus directory is looking good. Betty is hoping to get a phone number for our new department soon. The first Fox news story is on two sisters and their first year experience. She is going out on the Blue Heron with the new MPR contact next week. The story is on a freshman calculus class that uses real data taken from aboard the vessel. US News and World Report issue came out. We dropped from 34 to 36.
Betty is working on acquiring office furniture for Sue's office. A lot of it will be reused pieces. She is also working on the UMD listing in the Chamber of Commerce directory.
Zach is working on the online Bridge. He emailed Teri in the store regarding National Student Day. He will visit her tomorrow. We are not optimistic that there is a story here.
Jessica got the office tour and an overview of highlights (blog, story ideas doc, marketing-communications page). She started working on the homecoming article. Cheryl said that there will be a pep rally at the Holiday Inn Event Center. Jessica contacted the Chamber of Commerce about that. She would also like to speak to Bill Wade and the Alumni office but neither were in today. She has an interview with Lacey about homecoming tomorrow. She will review the handbook.
Katarina got the office tour and reviewed the handbook. She will start learning Currents today with Kathleen.
Working on Tell your story poster.
ReplyDeleteWorking on getting the bridge online.
finished the program and menu for ianni and got them to the printshop.
worked on the directory. Just have to do headers, table of contents page, and cheryl's changes.
Posted some news stories.
re colored the Employee Giving brochure to make it more UMD!
That's my quick list. Tons of other work just can't remember and don't have time to remember.
I got a hold of my contact regarding NSD (National Student Day) and the story, if it turns out to be one, won't shape up for a week or so; it's too early in the planning process to get definite information.
ReplyDeleteI also started the job Cheryl assigned me. I fit the photos in where I knew they fit, and am almost done putting the stories into the news @ UMD page to match them. I should have it done on Monday!
Finished up changes for Kate on the Beaujolais invitation and envelopes.
ReplyDeleteFinished the last changes on the diversity poster and sent them to Cheryl.
Finished the HTML version of the Bridge that Zach has been working on. It's not perfect but it's there. I want to go in a clean some stuff up on it.
Worked on the new bridge index page and forwarded it Cheryl. Might make it live tomorrow.
Based on Zach's info that the National Student Day article won't be a go for Tuesday, I sent Cheryl and Christiana an email regarding having the v2v and the social worker award articles ready for Wed. a.m. I moved the Kendra article back a week to make room for the National Student Day article. I sent an email to C & C about that too. Updated the story ideas doc and the marketing-comm page.
ReplyDeleteI started training Kat in on Currents. She started working on the 10/4 issue, taking out past events and adding new ones. I went through currents email. I added events that were only applicable to the 9/20 issue. On Monday, I will make sure that Kat gets any events that are valid for both the 9/20 issue and the 10/4 issue, and I will introduce her to the currents@d.umn.edu account.
I made corrections to the web articles on Bodell, Dutton, Fishback, McCray, Phillips and Swildens so that they match the Bridge articles. They are ready to go and I added the web addresses on the story ideas doc. I sent an email to Cheryl regarding whether she wants to leave expanded sections in the Bodell article and the McCray article that we didn't have room for in the printed Bridge.
On Thursday morning I did some media work: wrote Dan Kraker as the Blue Heron trip is changing from Sept 22 - 29. Wrote to the DNT because they asked for the cost of Ianni Hall and wrote and talked to Dan Hangar (FOXnews) about lining up an interview with Julie Etterson at the farm one afternoon next week. Met with Patty Delano about her request to revise the Bridge email.
ReplyDeleteThursday afternoon drove to the UM TC campus to hear Amy Phenix and Diana Harvey at Communicators Forum. I wrote up notes from the meeting to send to Communicators Council.
Friday, drove back from the cities. I met with Matt for a while and looked at the Bridge on-line, Looks really good. Links still need to be double checked. He's starting to plan for the Annual Report. The Ianni Hall celebration went well. Lots of media.
In the afternoon, Betty and I worked on getting ready for the Emergency Operations meeting on Monday. I wrote an outline for the information on handling a crisis that Sue and I have been asked to present. I worked on final updates for the fall crisis contact list (and sent a copy to Christiana). Betty is going to add in the last phone numbers on Monday morning.
Went to the Naked Vision movie, Fri night. Really good!
This weekend I was contacted by Presidents Kaler's office to write short pieces on remarkable UMD students. I wrote about Conor Schultz who was at the American Embassy in Vienna and about Kendra. They both approved what I sent off.
HOMEPAGE
I contacted 5 social work faculty members to help me make more of a story from the feature about the social work award.
I worked on the McCray long story a little bit. It is renamed mccray1.
Brett gave us Ianni pics. Should we add them to the Ianni page?
MEETINGS
I have three meetings Monday: Web Team, Emergency Operations and a UROP meeting.
Let's make some time to review our Get Publicity presentation. Tuesday morning?
At the moment the week looks fairly calm! And really good news, I think the Bridge, mailer, and email will go out the door on Tuesday. THANKS big time for the tremendous work you all did to make it happen. You rock!
Another bonus, the weather is supposed to be nice, Yippee.
