April 12 - one day later

First and foremost, we welcome Matt to the team. (Your jersey, like your computer, is on order).

Cheryl is putting the finishing touches on the NSF project. Kathleen and Christiana will proof it. Her next big project is writing the Paul Vesterstein article. Jocelyn Larocque isn't available until May so that interview will need to be put off a bit.

Kathleen will email Fatima about the Amy Shuster article. Kathleen received an ipad pic from Michelle in the med school and has asked Fatima to send her the article so she can put it on a Dreamweaver page.

Zach hasn't heard from Sam Helland so that article may or may not happen. He has been working on Mill City talking points, and he has the interview with Jim Eishen coming up.

Mandee couldn't attend the meeting but had updated Kathleen that she has rescheduled with Sarah Pollema for this Saturday.

Christiana went over the Brief. She will add info about the planetarium renovation at the end of the Odyssey media release. Kathleen will forward an email about the renovation to her. Carol Bock said no to an article. Christiana will be interviewing Brenna next week. She met with Randall Hanson this week about farming.

Christiana said that the UMD blog is up on the DNT. She wrote an opening blog and will post about the hockey party. After that she will put up the article about Storytelling at the Tweed.

Matt was able to fix the color on the UMD blog. He is going to work on removing the ads that are on it now, although that may need to be done on the DNT's side. He will call about his computer. Expert list postings are coming in. He will talk to Andy about his being able to put the media releases up on the UMD website.

Kathleen is writing the Emily Gaarder article. She took a picture of John Arthur's class and is just waiting for his revisions. She is meeting with Linh Scally, the CEHSP grad, next week.

  1. Yesterday I spoke with Michelle at the Med School and she forwarded pictures of students with an ipad. I forwarded this info to Fatima. Asked Mandee for a picture of Calvin with her ebook.

I met up with Dr. Arthur and took a picture of his class. I reminded him that I need his revisions. When I hadn't heard from him at the end of the day, I sent a reminder email.

Contacted Linh Scally and we will meet next Thursday for the interview.

I proofed the NSF document for Cheryl. I gave her my revisions.

I finished up the Emily Gaarder article. I just want to read it one more time and have Christiana read through it, before I send it to Emily.

  2. I am determined to write my once-a-day blog entry. I have a note to remind myself to write the "Safari Blog" and even though it sounds fabulous and adventurous, it's a reminder that I cannot post a comment through Mozilla Firefox but I can with Safari. So no zebras or giraffes but I hope to write noteworthy comments just the same.

This week in a nutshell (including today)

4.11 AMSOIL Arena Celebration Media Release, also sent an e-mail to Adam with a summary of the event and it appeared in today's BRIEF.

4.11 Worked on media release with Mindy Granley on the Sustainability Fair.

4.11 Updated Google Docs Story Ideas.

4.11 Wrote the BRIEF for 4/20.

4.12 Kathleen gave me more information about Rose Brewer--Kathleen also edited the BRIEF and I made the changes.

4.12 Posted first entry for UMD blog--conferred with Kathleen about irksome advertising. Matt worked with Jimmy to clear it from our blog.

4.12 Attended meeting that was advertised as a marketing presentation but it focused mainly on Duluth's port history and shipping mechanics. Interesting but I was looking forward to hearing about unique international methods in marketing and PR.

4.12 Attended Campus Assembly meeting for 30 minutes and then met with PR and Marketing team.

4.12 Sent AMSOIL Arena blog entry to Matt who then posted it with photo by 4 p.m.

4.13 Finished Sustainability Fair Media Release with Mindy Granley. Cheryl gave the okay and I sent it out to local media. Andy should have it posted on our news site by the end of the day.

4.13 Worked on the Planetarium Homepage story; still waiting to hear from Howard Mooers about specific presentation details.

4.13 Organized notes on the Honors Journal and Randel Hanson interview. Ready to write tomorrow.

  3. Finally received corrections and images for the AAAS minor article and also an image for the energy article. I added those images, wrote the 60 words, sized the homepage pics and sent the link to Andy. I update the index. Hooray.

Attended Mandee's fabulous Student Employee lunch and admired her certificate (suitable for framing). Learned from her mom and dad that Mandee makes gingerbread houses - priceless.

Made a few changes to the Emily Gaarder article. She sent me a great photo which I added. Christiana proofed the article and then I sent the link to Emily for her thoughts.

Storytelling at the Tweed article went up on the DNT blog. I emailed some of the key players notifying them of that.

Per Cheryl's request, I rewrote John Goodge's NSF filming visuals and sent them to her.

  4. It is Thursday and we are going to send off the NSF proposal!!!

I finished the Paul Vesterstein story and he came in today for Brett to take a photo and to go over the story. He brought some amazing pictures of WWII and after.

I put out some media fires, WDIO is doing a story on the orchard and also a story on local food in UMD's food service. I rounded up contact people.

Worked on revisions to the Mill City speech, (Thanks Zach). It is a go on Sam Helland and we'll need a Kathleen Annette (Commencement speaker) story.

I'm feeling really good about how everything is coming together.

Thank you all for all of your help!

  5. I edited currents and scanned pictures of Paul Vesterstein for Cheryl, as well as emailed Jim Eischen about the story we're doing on him. I got my room draw ordeal out of the way too, which is fantastic.

  7. Great day. We got a very nice email from NSF praising our proposal.

Met with Eileen Hansen from the Center for Economic Development (CED). She was delighted to see the Labo awards event in the Brief. She offered to let us attend a class at CED. They do a class on social media, for instance.

I added a few items to Currents. Am working on a letter to Dr. Black about Marketing for 2011.

It's a busy week with a legislative update on Tues afternoon, the Labo awards at noon on Wed and an Almanac North show on Wed afternoon.

Thanks to all for working on the web pages and press releases: Bill Payne, Dance Team, and ACI.
