Matt is working on the About Us page and still wrestling with making the RSS Feed pretty.
He is working on the Strat Plan brochure. It is no longer accordian style. Now it will be a booklet. He will be adding text from Denny on the SWOT portion of the strat plan and asked if Christiana and Kathleen would edit it. We said "sure."
Matt did up the ad for the Hermantown Star. We reviewed it. Wording is the same as the ad in the Bridge so it seems fine.
Christiana and Matt have been talking to Lisa Fitzpatrick about the UMD YouTube channel. Lisa would really like PR and Marketing to take that over. We will discuss with Cheryl when she gets back.
We brainstormed on video ideas. We would like to have students and departments contribute a number of videos. Ideas were as follows:
Video Storytelling class
Civil Engineering experiments
Art (throwing a pot), Theatre, and Music
Biology experiments
Planetarium and Robodome
Climbing
Clubs
Multicultural Events.
We talked about various people on campus saying "Good morning, UMD." Abby suggested having people saying it in different languages.
Matt suggested that if we proceed, we talk to the folks at the multimedia hub as they would know which professors ask for video components in their classes.
Christiana is attending the Social Media Conference tomorrow.
Kathleen has been busy with homepage changes, currents, how to send the currents email out, umdnews.
Abby finished some research for Christiana on which UMD news releases recently received coverage in the media. Abby is also working on her Princeton Review Green campus article.
Christiana looked over my 60 words. Once they were perfect, I sent homepage changes to Andy. I also updated the index.

I emailed Mandee on facebook regarding Trent Waterman. She hadn't been able to interview him. Abby said she would conduct that interview.
Christiana and I met and reviewed the story ideas. We updated the document in the system.
I updated how to send the currents email out in the How to Edit Currents document.
We had our team meeting.
I wrote the June 1 BRIEF, posted the fire rescue training media release on the blog with a nice photo of a fire truck with a rainbow in the background, edited 60 words for Kathleen, sent out the Bob Sherman media release to local media and to Matt, updated Google Docs and printed out a copy for Tricia, organized my files, attended the Civil Service picnic for lunch, and thought about how I would design my cape as the hero of geeks and squirrels. A very good day.

Looked over the Brief that Christiana had left for me.
I edited the Issac Odim article as it was originally written pre-graduation. Cropped photos for next week's homepage changes. I'm going to change the homepage out on Wednesday so that the apple article can be up through May 31. Hopefully we'll win and won't have to run that again.
I updated Currents, checked UMD News, and updated story ideas.
I'm doing a lot of little things--I hope no one minds but in order to keep it all straight, I might post twice today.
ReplyDeleteMet with Christy and Lisa and talked about Alumni Assoc. hospitality tent at Grandma's. Asked if I could put that in the special summer edition of the Brief--they gave me the go-ahead. Waiting to hear from Christy on whether or not there will be a golf cart for transporting runners. If so, I will add that to the Brief entry. I also included the Glensheen concerts scheduled every Wednesday in July at 7 p.m.
Talked to Bill Wade about the conference yesterday--he is going to lend me the book "The NOW Revolution" that was on sale at the conference. I didn't have money to pay for a copy so this is a great option!!
Posted a blog entry about Laura Erickson and the 25 years she had the program "For the Birds" on KUMD. I had this entry scheduled for June 2 but once I read the interview (thank you for the link, Kathleen), I thought it was perfect for the emerging spring season. Erica Karrels "Newman Civic Fellows" will be posted on June 2 instead.
E-mailed a YouTube video to Matt and Kathleen about social media. I think it's perfect for our UMD video idea and solidifies the need for something unique and creative to amp up website traffic. The statistics are staggering.
Typed up the notes from yesterday's conference and organized packets to hand out when I meet with Patti and Lisa at 3 p.m. today to go over what we learned. I have those materials available for all of you as well if you're curious. We could always go over it next Tuesday at our meeting.
Sent Brett a copy of the ACI Fellowship photo via e-mail that he requested in person.
Talked to Lisa about the Social Media Breakfast that meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month. Would like to invite all of you to go too--good information about everything going on with social media. 7:30 a.m. - 9 a.m. at Barker's Island Inn on June 10. FREE.
Looked over the SWOT Preliminary Results for Matt--downsizing the material would be good but I don't know how much control we have over that.
Planning to post a blog entry this afternoon about Jocelyn LaRocque, look over the Isaac Odim story for Kathleen, read more of "A Social Media Marketing Handbook", and handle incoming phone calls and e-mails.
On a sad side note, one of my baby chicks passed away last night. We will have a funeral this evening. It was a hard way to start my morning but I feel cheerier now that I'm working. Thanks team for all your great ideas and hard work!!

ReplyDeleteI worked and am pretty close to finishing the redesigned Strategic Plan. I haven't put in the SWOT report. I have emailed Denny about it. It is very long and it doesn't make sense to put all of it in.
I made changes the copy that Denny wanted done on the Strategic Plan.
