Kathleen wrote the Land of Plenty article on Sunday. She finished it on Monday and then emailed it out for feedback. She made changes yesterday, and it's ready to go. The Silver Bay article went up on the homepage yesterday and Friday, after the rally, the Land of Plenty article will go up. On Monday she checked the umdnews website and updated the stories ideas doc. She also worked on obtaining photos for the Events Calendar changes the week of 11/07. Yesterday she attended the Social Networking Tech Tuesday Talk. She has been working on Currents with Kat.
Today Kathleen worked on the Chamber of Commerce listing. She will send that to Cheryl and Sue when it is done. She edited the Night/Day ad. She interviewed her first UROP student today. Updated the team calendar. Updated media contact emails.
Zach finished up his Duane Millslagle UROP article. Now he is working on the Maureen Tobin Stanley article. He's also been doing odds and ends for Cheryl.
Kat has been working on Currents. She interviewed Ann Bergeron with Christiana regarding the puppet UROP. She wrote the Area Voices blog entries for the Fisheries event and the Zombie Symposium. She also found images for those entries. She has also been helping Cheryl with projects/research.
Jessica finished her facebook article. She is waiting for a quote. She is writing the Heikal UROP article. She has an upcoming UROP interview. Today she helped Cheryl with the campus directory and made posters for it.
Christiana has been working on news releases including Safe and Sober and the Haunted Halls. She is working with Mindy Granley on the Ianni Hall Energy Rebate news conference. She will be contacting MN Power to see if they want to be involved in the conference.
Christiana is working on the Brief for next week: AILRC, Silver Bay and Land of Plenty. She met with a student about the Fitgers Holiday Forest event. The student hopes to get decorations donated from various offices, departments and programs. We brainstormed about possible ornaments.
In addition to meeting about the puppet UROP with Kat, Christiana met with a professor/advisor for the Intelligent Helmet UROP.
Yesterday morning I finished my Facebook article, Kathleen proofed it and now it is waiting for Cheryl. I called to interview the Comm. Club faculty sponsor, Dr. Boyson, for a quote on why the club uses Facebook, but have received no response yet. I may have to change to the club President.
ReplyDeleteI also finished my second UROP article (first draft) about Dr. Heikal. THat is waiting for proofing by Cheryl.
I made posters for the UMD Directories.
I made an appointment to meet with Jean Baptiste and Fay Maas, another UROP subject. That will happen on Monday morning.
Today I wrote the Brief. 3 Entries: American Indian Learning Resource Center; UMD and Silver Bay; LLO NSF grant. Pretty simple but great news to share with the U of MN system.
ReplyDeleteWorking on the marketing plan for the Fitger's Holiday Forest silent auction. Met with Lisa Pratt to discuss the Alumni Assoc. involvement. We plan to meet with the students to iron out final details.
E-mailed back and forth with Mindy Granley about the Ianni Hall rebate from MN Power. Small glitch surfaced but I think we're still going to go forward with a news conference.
Met with Betty who gave me an outstanding explanation of Duluth and St. Louis Days. I'm excited to work on the details with her and to prepare for the February/March event.
Attended the American Indian honor drum performance. It was amazing and touching--especially since the Chester Bowl Immersion schoolchildren were present. A really nice group of kids who were fun to watch as the chanting and drum beats were played. It was also nice to see President Kaler, et al appreciate the honor that the American Indian community extended toward them.
Working on the Safe and Sober news release and the marketing plan for the Bulldog Statue initiative.
At 4:15 today I'm meeting with the puppet UROP student, and then attending the SFA performance, The Foreigner.
All in all, a very good week with an amazing department! Three cheers to all of you!
It's been a fun and exciting week. Monday was the Silver Bay event. Good publicity on that. Zack and I interviewed Maureen Tobin Stanley for the story on her scholarship.
ReplyDeleteSue and I met with SA students about UMD's branding. They are excited to help and had good ideas about UMD needing a distinct identity.
Matt and I did the Night&Day ad and the Development insert for the strategic plan. We (mostly Matt) also worked on a new envelope for the Annual Report.
The campus directories arrived and Jessica and I got the distribution site set up. The advertisers came on Thurs and it was a lovely all-day event.
DR. KALER
Zach, Kristiana and I went to the Honor Song event with Dr. Kaler. I attended the CED event with Dr. Kaler and worked with the TV stations. He was at the Take a Stand Rally today. I worked with TV stations at all three events. Also attended Kaler's Q&A today. The Rally was great! The organizers said they really appreciated our help.
UROP – I will help Jessica on the Mysteries and Heikal. Jessica and i discussed revisions to the Facebook story. We’re having a tough time getting quotes.

That's it for me. Have a good week.
Cheryl
I made some headway on the Tobin-Stanley story with Kathleen's help (we found a sheet that has some info about the scholarship from a more factual perspective) and also got some good quotes about facebook from some college students I know, and a few from people I don't (a lot of these were so incomplete/bad I didn't even rewrite them: I think what I gave should already be really helpful, a good variety of experience with facebook).
ReplyDeleteYesterday I had a great meeting with Cheryl. We ended up bringing Christiana in and talking about job descriptions.
ReplyDeleteI am still getting in UMD Facts info. I spoke to Giljae about enrollment figures. I emailed that info to Cheryl, Sue, and Betty.
Worked on Currents with Kat. Alot of new items to add.
Today I spoke to Tim Holst about the number of grad programs. I sent an email to Cheryl, Sue and Betty regarding the numbers for the Chamber brochure. Sent emails to people who hadn't yet sent info for the UMD Facts update. My due date was today.
I wrote 25 words for the two articles going live today and also cropped photos. After Christiana reviewed them, I sent the homepage changes to Andy and updated the index.
I added pictures from the Ianni Hall dedication to the old article and changed the first paragraph to past tense.
My LSBE UROP person isn't ready to be interviewed so I got the list and will contact someone else.
Continued to add items to Currents and proofed that as did Cheryl. I wrote the memo for Currents and sent Currents out.
Went through UMD news emails and added a lot of new projects to the story ideas list.
