Cheryl is working on bidding the Bridge, and bidding the mailer (which Matt doesn’t know about yet). For the Bridge, she is getting more photos for Matt, working with Brett to take photos of Ianni Hall, writing the captions for the Ianni Hall Bridge story, finishing the Chancellor’s column, and finishing the strategic plan story. She is working on the strategic plan rollout (news conference, mailing and bookmarks) and the Ianni Hall dedication. She’s working on getting a truck for the State Fair and other State Fair arrangements. She’s helping on the Twins event.
She will meet with a possible intern, Eliza on Friday. She is working on getting a new student to do Currents (good idea Kathleen) and getting a place for Zach to stay so he can come back a week early. She is working with Lucy to secure the team through March 2.
Kathleen set up the homepage for next week and finished the homepage for this week. After the meeting she revised the Tweed storytelling news item and rewrote the Eddy piece. (beautifully, I might add.)
Christiana is writing the class of 1951 stories for the Bridge. She is sending a business announce to the campus about SWAT team practice at UMD. She is working with KBJR to film the precambrian camp. She and Kathleen took the NRRI tour.
Abby finished Tim Bates and did short descriptions of the championship wins for the Bridge.
Matt did an Ianni Hall dedication invitation, a T-shirt for Welcome week, and a lot of work on the Bridge (which is beautiful.) He finished the bookmark. Campus Directory starts next week!
To plan for: We need to make a flyer for new faculty packets about How to Get Your News and Events Published. We should schedule a training session for September and get it into the handout. IDEA. What if Abby looks through the last year of clippings and writes down the names of UMD faculty who are quoted. Then, let’s invite them to join the Expert’s List. I noticed many prominent faculty aren’t listed yet.
Today...
ReplyDeleteCompiled the TRT announcement, sent it to John Weiske and Biz announce. Hopefully everyone will be okay and no one has cardiac arrest if they see men rappelling from campus buildings.
Researched, wrote, and edited the Bridge article about Dr. Chee. What a delightful person to write about! Sent it to SFA Rob and Dr. Chee for any corrections. Also sent it to Matt just so he had something to work with tomorrow when determining layout and design.
Met with June Hendrickson with Lisa, Kristy and Bob Sherman. Discussed the alumni profiles of four candidates that I will interview on Monday. I am hoping to have everything written and ready to go by Tuesday so we can add that to the Bridge as well.
Agreed to help with PR for the Twins game in September--UMD is hosting an alumni event and I thought a news release, blog entry, and even something in the Brief would be beneficial.
Planning to attend the SCSE Poster Fair at 3 p.m. today. I'm on the lookout for story ideas to fill up our fall calendar...and then, for tomorrow, I am going to sleep, sleep, sleep and get healthy! I'm pretty excited.
Happy weekend, team! As always, I feel fortunate to work with the best!
Monday and Tuesday....
ReplyDeleteI helped a few people with problems updating the Twin Cities Directory.
Send the Thank you Wrap out to be printed. We should have a proof today.
Talked with Cheryl about starting the Bridge Wrap. I have the file all organized, now just switching out photos and added new text.
Updated our websites for External Affairs
I got some changes from Cheryl for the Bridge that I will be going through today or tomorrow. Also added the UMD Stores ad yesterday.
Did all the Campus Directory updating that I have. Frequently dialed numbers and Ermeriti. ITSS will pull the data on Thursday for me to start working on.
I installed and figured out how to use the IHDP program to put publications online. The strategic plan is now up.
I meet with Kate today about the Ianni Hall invite and will finish up the green wrap.
For the week so far...
ReplyDeleteWrote the blog, researched Alumni for the Bridge, phone interviews with the 60th reunion alumni, working on the Brief, updated Google docs for this week, met with Cheryl about Story Ideas and hashed out upcoming topics, talked to Abby about Edible Gardens and the Hoagie scholarship--asked her to have both finished this week.
Met with Scott Sandelin and Norman Sundeen (60th reunion alumn) at the AMSOIL Arena. Toured the entire facilities and had a grand old time. It was pretty awesome talking to Scott and hearing the "back in the day" stories from Norman.
Blog entry on UMD News--Ron Marchese/Armenian textiles. I purposely left the Freshman Trips up for almost a week--we were getting quite a few visitors (68 when I first posted it!!) and because freshman will be here in a week or so, I thought it would be good to keep that at the top.
Working on the Twins game in late September--news release and blog, as well as in the Brief.
The Precambrian camp graduates this Friday. June at NRRI will provide all the information after the event so that I can blog it next Monday.
Interviewed with Abby for her intern project. Kind of fun walking through all the steps and years that brought me to UMD and the PR and Marketing team (:
There were other things that I've done throughout the week but because I was a total blog-slacker, I can't remember all of it. It has been a good whirlwind!
We skilled the meeting but we are going to blog our updates. Here's mine:
ReplyDeleteMARKETING
The Great News is that we have a whole Bridge and it looks great. We have started sending around for the first proof (Adam, LJ, Lucy, Abby, me, etc) and next Monday we will go to full review. Dr. Black will review his column on Mon or Tues as well.
I did bid the Bridge and the mailer. At this minute, I still haven't written the mailer. Ianni Hall photos will be this Friday. Christiana is doing a great job with the class of 51.
We are working on the strategic plan rollout (MATT DID THE FLIP BOOK!, news conference Sept 1, mailing and bookmarks). Denny has asked us to look over the website again as he has updated it with our edits.
We are working on the Ianni Hall dedication.
Mandy is still working on getting a truck for the State Fair and I'm doing a few more other State Fair arrangements. We still need to fill the 3-6 pm slot.
Twins event: Our idea on the Twins event is to get Jesse Bodell to help. We are waiting for his ideas and then we can throw the homepage story up. If we get 300 tickets sold, Dr. Black can throw out the first pitch!
I am bidding out the Ianni invite and the Employee Giving Brochure.
STUDENTS
The student intern Eliza was great. She isn't sure yet how she can do it with her credits. We have two good work study possibilities and I will line up interviews for Wed, Sept 7. Zach will be back Aug 29!
EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
With Abby's help, I wrote a message from the Chancellor for the Stateman
Let's leave the color printer where it is for now. Students can work on my table or in Matt's office until things settle down. I'd hate to move the printer down and then have to bring it back up.
I did schedule a Get Publicity for Your Events and News training session for September 27, 2-3pm, in the Tweed. Matt is working on the handout.
I got us the external email which Betty will check
I got us the external-affairs url which Andy has already redirected to publications for now.
Betty will start coming to our meetings beginning next week.
PR
I have a fire to put out: Duluth/Superior mag wants to do a story on student drinking. I have a story lead for the Strib: Maurine Tobin Stanley set us a peace studies scholarship under very powerful circumstances.
IDEA. What if a student looks through the last year of clippings and writes down the names of UMD faculty who are quoted. Then, let’s invite them to join the Expert’s List. I noticed many prominent faculty aren’t listed yet.
I meant we "skipped" our meeting!
ReplyDeleteTwo more things I forgot to mention: I did an SFA standing display banner and sent it to Sheldon. I am working on the campus boulevard banners with Lucy and Todd signs.
Working on the Employee Giving Brochure.
ReplyDeleteFinished up the Ianni Invite and have it ready to go to the printer. Just waiting on estimates.
Will update the Bridge with corrections tomorrow and have it ready for Dr. Black on Monday.
Replaced new stories in the Bridge.
Dealing with lots of Directory updating problems
Will work on the Campus Directory tomorrow.
Updated the changes on the Bridge. Place a bunch of new versions of the stories. Printed the Bridge for Dr. Black and Lucy.
ReplyDeleteI make the Employee Giving Brochure. I printed it out to give to Tricia. I think I need to do something else with it it's still too boring.
Talked to Arrowhead and gave them all the information for the Ianni Invite. Kate needs to send the address list when it's finished by Development.
Worked with the Campus Directory/ updating with people.
I just got the list for the Campus Directory so I will start putting that in next week.
I have the basic text in for the Publications Handout... I need to make it look nicer now.
Busy couple of days. I proofed the Bridge yesterday, and am doing it again today.
ReplyDeleteCompiled info for the Night/Day ad yesterday. Proofed it today.
I updated Currents and the story ideas doc from the umdnews email.
I wrote the 60 words for the two articles, cropped photos, helped edit the alumni1951 article. Christiana and Abby both reviewed the 60 words. I then sent changes to Andy. Also edited the UMD is military friendly article.
Reviewed the getting publicity at UMD page. Added our Getting the Word Out event to the events calendar.
Reviewed applications for student employees.
