Team Meeting for 7/27

We are all going to try to make Wednesdays at 2:00 pm our team meeting time throughout August. Go team.

Matt will be out Thursday and Friday. He will send email telling people to contact Cheryl.

Abby is working on second draft of Precambrian article. She wants to get that on a webpage today to send out for approval. She will next write the Freshman outdoor article. She will edit Sam Helland article and NSF article for the Bridge. She will also do some research on sustainability magazines. Cheryl suggested the Writers Market book in the library.

Christiana is working on sustainability homepage article today. Abby went to the farm yesterday with Christiana and took some great pictures. Christiana sent out media releases on the experts lists and june berries. She is finishing up the media release on Issac Odim. Next week is new vice chancellor, UMD farm and the state fair. She is also blogging. She will be working on editing articles for the Bridge tomorrow. She is trying to get a hold of Dr. Chee for the Bridge article.

Christiana met with Mindy Granley and a student, Nate, who is designing the Champ goes green t-shirt. She plans on taking pictures of Champ at the farm during welcome week and at the apple pressing later in the fall. We discussed a possible "Day in the Life of Champ" video where Champ takes part in classes and goes around the campus. Also possible video contest "Your favorite UMD Building."

Matt is working on the Bridge. He is also working on the Beaujolais nouveau invitation. Hopefully the save the date postcard will go out next week.

Cheryl is waiting for the new org chart to email to the campus about the directory. She needs to send out a state fair email to the campus and also the interview with Dr. Kaler to the campus. She needs to write three articles for the Bridge: McCray, Bodell and Phillips. She is interviewing a donor for SCSE on Friday. She is thinking that the chancellor's column can be a tribute to the achievements at UMD in the past year. She is working on the op-ed piece and got feedback from John Hatcher.

Kathleen has started the next issue of Currents. She finished the Vizlab article and sent it to Lisa. She is working on the UMD is military friendly and the Susan Mulholland article. Two students from Susan's dig called yesterday so she has quotes from them. She has edited all of her Bridge articles except one. She will contact Dan Fishback for his interview. Also waiting to hear yet from Tricia and Carrie about the Pikka article.

Cheryl will contact development about Development scrapbook for Bridge. She is waiting to hear about editing Eddy Foundation Speech clinic article for CEHSP article in Bridge.

New Griggs dorm will be named in honor of former Chancellor Ianni.

  1. Posted two entries on the UMD News blog today: art education in the morning, Isaac Odim in the afternoon.

Met with Abby and went over the PreCambrian Homepage Story; walked her through the to-do list for the next three weeks (she won't be here next week so it wasn't a super daunting list or anything).

Talked to Mindy about the State Fair--she would like to have Champ's green wardrobe ready to go for the sustainability side of things at the fair. I'm so excited to see it!!! Especially the "pawprint" message that is way too cute and friendly but somehow everyone is getting on board with it. Yay! I'm meeting with Mindy tomorrow morning to go over ideas for games, giveaways, etc.

Went to the Ianni Hall Dedication Planning Meeting. Listened and took notes. Planning on a news release and brief entry.

Met with the manager of Duluth Pack (John) and went over the Facilities Usage Form that is granting him permission to film on campus at the Bus Hub tomorrow, Thursday, from 8 a.m.-11a.m. He said it probably wouldn't take longer than 45 minutes but I gave him that window in case the weather was uncooperative. I told him that it could be great advertising if it snowed during the filming--add to the strength of the gear.

Kathleen helped me find research about Dr. Chee and the scholarship award in his name. I've contacted the last recipient of the award and all I need now is an interview with Dr. Chee himself or at least a phone conversation--then I can write the article for the Bridge. I'm hoping to spend a little time on that tomorrow, as well as the editing of my two stories.

Thursday--I'm thinking Abby can work independently on her projects so I can focus on my farming story, the meeting with Mind, and Dr. Chee. It would be the most perfect day to check those three items off my list. Here's to hoping!

  2. Compiled, edited, organized photos, and put up on the web...the farm homepage story. YEE-HAW! It was super fun to write but took me most of the morning.

Helped Abby with Dreamweaver and her two stories, PreCambrian Camp and Freshman Year Trips.

Edited and downsized the two Bridge stories I was in charge of (MTAG and MAP)...totally confused the two when sending to Matt with photos. I'm really sorry Matt!! I hope it all makes sense.

Contacted Dr. Chee via e-mail and I'm hoping for a reply by Monday. Sent Maxwell, the scholarship recipient, a list of questions because he said e-mail was easiest for him.

Re-invited Jana Hollingsworth at the Duluth News Tribune to a Juneberry picking event tomorrow, Friday, during lunch hour. I thought the picking was over but apparently there are berries aplenty just waiting to be harvested. She really liked the idea so maybe...

Met with Mindy about the State Fair and went over the stage show details and what she would like to see happen. I think it will go really well! She's hoping to have a green t-shirt for Mr. Champ. Yay!!

And I honestly feel that this was a wonderful, productive day. I'm looking forward to sunshine and flowers all weekend long. Have a wonderful couple of days, PR&M team!!! See you Monday!!!

  3. The week is over and I didn't get everything done. Sigh. I did a lot though.

    BRIDGE
Wrote a long and short version of the Frank McCray story. Sent it to Adam, will send it to Judy next week. It is 500 words. I'd love help on editing it.
Interviewed Jesse Bosell, Mark Phillips and Eric Swidens. I think I'll write Mark Phillips next.
Need to start on Dr. Black's column.

    STRATEGIC PLAN
Met with Susanna Pelayo Woodward, Lucy and Denny Falk on the Strategic Plan pieces. Am sending an email to all of you outlining the roll-out ideas: news rlease, homepage, area voices for Aug 30 - Sept 6. We should meet with Lucy and other players on this as well.

    STATE FAIR
This is coming along. People are signing up and the Strib wants Dr. Black, Champ and the trophies at their booth for an interview at 11:30am that day. That is great.

    CAMPUS DIRECTORY
Andy and I renamed the new departments in the online directory. Have an email to go out to the campus first thing on Monday morning reminding people to update.
We are now External Affairs (sounds racy). We will be changing our main web page to www.d.umn.edu/external-affairs

    OTHER
LJ and I did a short item for Mpls/St. Paul Business Journal on our prestigious LSBE alumni.
Lots of "Budget Cut" press, FOX and DNT, coming Monday - WDIO.

Matt's wedding is coming soon. Fun!

  4. Christiana and I reviewed the story ideas this morning. I proofed Christiana's farm article. Also proofed Cheryl McCray article.

I wrote 60 words x 3 for tomorrows homepage changes. Also cropped photos.

Heard back from one of the members of the Vets Club so I will add some quotes from her. Heard back from Lisa that the interactive display won't go live at Great Lakes Aquarium until October so that article is on hold.

    Checked currents and umdnews.

  5. Updated the story ideas with things from the umdnews email. Also updated currents.

Christiana proofed the 60 words and then I sent changes to Andy. Also updated the index.

Edited the Storytelling at the Tweed article for the Bridge. Christiana looked it over. I sent it to Matt.

I set up a phone interview with Dan Fishback for Monday at 11:30.

Cheryl, Christiana and I met about the Strategic Plan. I tried to book the library rotunda online but I need chartfield and chartfield #'s before I can do that. Left a note for Cheryl.

Put the military friendly article on a dreamweaver page.

  6. Caught up on emails yesterday.

Edited the bookmark.... printed new versions and met with Lucy.

Talked with Cheryl about Ianni ideas.

    Worked on the Calendar.... annoying!

Worked on the Beaujolais invite for Kate.

Today I worked on the bookmark and packaged it for printing.

Then made a lot of different versions of the Beaujolais invite and save the date. Met with Lucy and will find Cheryl right when I come in tomorrow to have a meeting with Kate about the postcard which has to be out to a printer in the next few days.
