Cheryl met with Dr. Black. Matt has an assignment to make a book out of the Strategic Plan Action Steps. (I'm thinking comic book, action figure motif.) Dr. Black made changes to the website info and the press release. Cheryl will write the email to the campus regarding the Strat Plan.
Cheryl reviewed the conference call with Dr. Black. Driven to Discover will continue but more student focused.
Zach wrote the Jocelyn Laroque article. The Jim Eischen article is done. Zach also made changes to Currents.
Kathleen reviewed articles that are going up on the homepage today and next week.
Matt is working on RSS feed. The experts list is done but he still needs to talk to Andy about search function.
Ran out of time to blog yesterday. I have been flat out crazy busy.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I made changes to Linh Scally article. Proofed the Labounty article and changed the picture to include the whole club. Pat Borchert identified the other three pictures. Per her request, I photoshopped out their name tags.
I proofed Currents and gave changes to Mandee.
I checked the UMD News website twice. Nothing was there then.
Today I wrote up notes from Cheryl's conference call in prep for her meeting with the Chancellor.
I set up the commencement article web page and sized photos. Wrote 60 words for three articles and created thumbnail pics. Sent homepage changes to Andy. Updated the index.
Made some additions to Linh Scally article.
Proofed Currents again. Zach made changes, and I sent out the email.
Proofed Zach's article on Jocelyn Larcque.
We had our team meeting. Wrote up notes and posted them.
I finally finished the experts list today. The Search is working and everything! It will be easy to update with new Experts.
ReplyDeleteCheryl had me look over Zach's Jocelyne Larocque article and I tweaked some things in it. I also reinserted the pictures because they looked stretched.
ReplyDeleteI went to the diversity panel with Cheryl, Kathleen and Christiana (after we enjoyed delicious pizza, of course).
I got an update from Sheila about how many hours I will have for next week and it's like 40...so that's not happening. Maybe 30 at most.
I also added a few things to Currents that somehow got lost in the mess that is the new Currents Gmail account.
I still haven't had time to work on the Sarah Pollema article, but it's on my to do list for next week!
There were a couple of things that I had done this week that I neglected to include in my last blog. On Monday I wrote the orchard voting article. On Tuesday I put the Getting the Word Out workshop we are doing in June on the events calendar.
ReplyDeleteToday I checked umdnews in the morning and set up folders for the colleges. I confirmed that we had the ideas that had been sent in the story ideas list (we did).
Sized some pictures of Christiana. Also corrected the brightness on the Jim Eischen picture.
Added professor quotes to the Linh Scally article. Proofed the Jocelyn Larocque article after Mandee had revised it. I gave her my changes.
Attended the Students of Color Panel at the Tweed. I thought it was very informative. Too bad more people didn't show up.
Abby stopped by. She is going to start on Monday, May 16. She'll contact me to nail down her hours.
I asked Mandee if she would revise the How to Edit Currents document sometime next week. I thought it would be great to have her recraft that document before she leaves us for bigger and better things.
The plague passed through my home and I now have the immune system of a rhino. Ever heard of a rhino with a cold? Exactly.
ReplyDeleteI posted on our blog about the student LSBE awards and happily received an e-mail from Kathleen a while later that the blog had appeared at the top of the DNT Area Voices list.
Edited the Commencement news release and the Strategic Plan news release. E-mailed appropriate media outlets.
Edited senior honors student article for the Homepage Story. Almost done but will wait to place online tomorrow.
Attended the Diversity Student Panel at the Tweed. A lot of food for thought and I would love to be a part of the future changes for diversity on campus.
And I did a number of smaller items--e-mails to professors, phone calls about upcoming stories, ironing out the idea of having a Homepage Story placed on the Twin Cities site about Bill Payne and the online theatre course...a very good day!!
Finished the Sarah Pollema article. I think I want someone else to look at it before I send it to her.
ReplyDeleteHere's the link to the Larocque story and the Pollema story:
http://www.d.umn.edu/unirel/homepage/11/larocque.html
http://www.d.umn.edu/unirel/homepage/11/pollema.html
Attended the diversity panel (took a wealth of notes, if anyone needs them for something) and the meeting with Ron Marchese, as well as started work on the Plataea story.
ReplyDeleteFinished the partial redesign of the News page. Fixed some errors on News and Experts with Zach's help!
ReplyDeleteWebsites should be good to go! They are all working and I have organized them with instructions for updating so I don't get confused myself.
I also have started thinking about where to go with the Strategic plan booklet. Started organizing files for the billboard and night and day ads.
Working on adding the RSS feed to our About Us page. I think I have the code ready but I don't want to screw up the page yet until I make sure.
Met with Christiana, Cheryl, and Mandee this morning to review projects.
ReplyDeleteI put together a homepage article on faculty awards and faculty retirements. Sized the photo for that. Tomorrow Christiana and I will meet so I can show her what I do on my end so that Andy can make changes to the homepage. We thought it would be good if we cross trained a bit. We will review both Photoshop and Dreamweaver.
I reviewed Mandee's Sarah Pollema article - made some suggestions.
Checked the umdnews email in box a couple of times during the day.
Edited Erica Karrels (Newman Civic Fellows award recipient) media release; sent to media.
ReplyDeleteComposed and edited faculty retirement media release; sent to media.
Posted blog entry about upcoming Language Symposium.
Worked with the blog a little--checked into blog stats (how many people read it, etc.) and printed off activity sheets to document the past month. Very nice tool.
Filed news releases, notes, and miscellaneous items into folders.
E-mailed Brenda Risdon about CEHSP Bob Sherman--asked about when his photo shoot with Brett is scheduled. Once the photo is taken, I will send out a media release announcing him as the new development officer.
I came in to the meeting with Cheryl, Christiana and Kathleen and was given a few assignments to do.
ReplyDeleteI organized the story ideas google doc by college and sent that to Kathleen, Cheryl and Christiana.
I made Kathleen's suggested changes to the Pollema article and sent it to her for approval.
I type up a press release for Cheryl about the Doctoral program. I emailed one of the students that is graduating from the program to get a quote. I will call her tomorrow if I hear nothing.
I also tried to find Kathleen some pictures of the retired faculty but they apparently all hate having their picture taken so that was a bust.
I'll be in tomorrow at 9 am.
