Matt was able to post a new picture on the events calendar page. Yeah. He said it is no problem to either change the picture once or twice a month or have a cycle of three like other UofM sites do. I imagine that often times we could use pictures from events that are covered on the homepage.
Matt brought the revised Strat Plan up to Denny and is waiting for more changes. Matt is also waiting for changes on the Thank You wrap. In the meantime, he is changing photos to CMYK. Matt is meeting next week regarding an Alumni identifier.
Matt is researching art museums in Minnesota and also looking at Wikipedia editing.
Kathleen has been working on confirming Bridge articles with the development directors. She gave Matt some copies of the most recent Bridges so he could see what we have done in the past. She's been doing lots of other things too but if she lists them here, she won't have anything to post so . . .
Christiana and I met in the morning to review story ideas. I checked currents and umdnews email. Rather a slow day in those departments.
ReplyDeleteToday, I concentrated on nailing down articles for the Bridge. I called Adam. He would like an article on Anne Dutton at Lockheed. He sent me the contact info, and I will follow up with her. He also confirmed that he would like to proceed with the Frank McCray article. He said that Cheryl and he are scheduled to meet with a relative of Franks next month.
I spoke to LJ. He wanted to go with Mark R. Phillips and Dan Fishback from DemandTec. He will contact them to confirm that they are O.K. with that and get back to me (us).
I called, then emailed Bob Sherman. He sent an email back that he had spoke with Paul Deputy. They wanted to go with the Linh Scally article for an alumn. He said that Cheryl had spoke to Joyce Strand. I told him I'd follow up with Cheryl regarding a donor angle with Joyce.
I called Rob. Left a message with his assistant. That guy is hard to get a hold of.
I called, then emailed Carrie. She asked for a list of articles to help her and Tricia pick a general donor article. I created that document (I thought the story ideas doc might be overwhelming and emailed that to her. I copied Cheryl and Christiana on that.
I didn't contact Susan Mack as we just talked to her last week.
Contacted Jean in the Chancellor's office and confirmed that we did not need to put out a news release on tomorrows meeting about the American Indian Learning Resource Center between UMD officials and three MN representatives. I put together some background information for Christiana about the AILRC, in case she didn't know the back story. I texted her too so she had a heads up about the meeting.
Fixed Bill Wad on a news story that Kathleen found.
ReplyDeletePosted the Tom Hedin news story.
Worked on the Alumni Identifier.
Posted the PDF for technology recommendations online.
looking at wikipedia....
Compiled, edited, and sent out the Brief for June 29…three entries were Tom Hedin, Psychedelic Signatures, and the Bike/Walk to Work Week.
ReplyDeleteWDIO called and asked about a Health Camp taking place today. Kids interested in a healthcare career started at St. Luke’s and then were scheduled to transition to UMD in the afternoon. Ummm…what? I had no clue, hadn’t even heard of it. Neither did 9 other people in different departments. Finally had a break when Kathy from the Medical School figured it out—she provided the room number, the basic schedule, and was ready for WDIO to show up with cameras. I called WDIO back and shared the information…and they apologized with “we’re so sorry, we don’t have anyone available to go over there at that time.” Sigh. Only my office walls and myself will know the Herculean effort that took place between myself, the phone, and Google.
Met with John King, Rick Smith, Greg Fox, the Chancellor, Alice Hausman, and Kerry Gauthier about the AILRC. An informal gathering that was more about sharing where UMD is at with the planning (“Shovel-ready” the Chancellor stated. “Activity on site within a month.”) and not haggling over whether or not it should happen. I did not offer my opinion at any point (although I think the building is amazing and deserves to be built) because I like to listen first, see things from all angles, before I offer my two-cents. After the meeting though, I chatted with Alice Hausman because she had attended Concordia University and I had attended the campus in St. Paul during my first two years of college. All in all, a good meeting but not news release material. I will be happy to go over the notes with anyone who is interested. I’ll provide coffee and cake.
Working on two news releases that I hope to have done by tomorrow (running a little behind schedule but things keep popping up)…the Personal Finance Challenge and the Integrated Elementary Education and Special Education program. The latter…Joyce is trying to find time to edit the Homepage Story that I wrote earlier this week and I would like to hear back from her before I put the same information into news release format.
I’m looking forward to having the team back on Monday—it’s so quiet without all of you here. Have a great weekend, everyone!
Wikipedia! It's turning out to be quite a lot of fidigiting. Will be making some changes tomorrow and moving hopefully getting a logo up next week!
ReplyDeleteWorked on Wikipedia I have over 10 comments so I should be able to put photos up next week! I officially got rid of the 148th fighter wing and replaced it with a cited date. Added Champ to the info box.
ReplyDeleteCheryl and I worked more on Wikipedia... we added the logo and added research institutes.
I updated the Tom Hedin story... Christiana found that it was dated incorrectly and I added his photo.
Photoshopped the photo of Dr Black for the Strategic Plan (almost done!)

Worked on the Night and Day Calendar... I think it's all ready to go.
Talked to Mary in the Hub about cameras and equipment she has available for July 4th. Will talk to Lisa and Cheryl next week.
Cheryl told me about a job for Swenson, so I will be getting to that next week as well maybe.
Hi - I am back. Now, I think I'll be here for a long, long time. Have been working on the NSF projects. Will go to Fond du lac this weekend to help film the pre-video. Matt and I will go to Red Cliff on July 4 as well. Lined up the Tweed and Bagley Classroom for the Chippewa filming. Got two rooms at Fitgers for Thurs night July 7 for elders.
ReplyDeleteMatt and I worked on Wikipedia. That was fun. One zillion email and voice mails to catch up on. C all on Mon.
Wrote my job description for Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteI updated the team calendar as Matt and Christiana had some changes.
Proofed Christiana's IESE article. Wrote 60 words for three articles and cropped photos.
Emailed Carrie about donor articles. Emailed alumna Anne Dutton about Bridge article.
Checked currents email and umdnews emailed numerous times. Updated the story docs.
I applied for my job today and it reminded me how lucky I am to have my funky little office, a great team, and fun writing projects!
ReplyDeleteEdited the IESE Homepage Story, posted a blog entry about the Bike/Walk to Work Week, met with Kathleen about the Story Ideas document (updated said document), enjoyed the smell of lilacs from Lisa's office, made copies of possible marketing plan from UBC that Cheryl found, compiled list of Wikipedia references for Abby to include with her list, came up with the idea of "Champ Goes Green" and will discuss this with Cindy Hale and Randel Hanson (especially when UMD receives the apple orchard award later this summer), edited and stream-lined the Lake Kivu news release (sent to media and Matt), searched for photos of Champ and every single one of them is with a jersey...spent a little time staring out the window thinking about what Champ should wear for his sustainability debut...like Don Draper says "Creative gets paid for staring into space because brilliance arrives shortly after." Yes, indeed.
Worked on Wikipedia - Added references and updated logo information.
ReplyDeletePosted News Release.
Added a few people to the Experts List and worked on some weirdness that was going on.
Met work Cheryl about a few upcoming projects!
Homepage changes went up. Thanks, Christiana, for proofing the 60 words X 3. Proofed Christiana's Kirk Kersten news release.
ReplyDeleteI added Glensheen summer events to the events calendar. Lori Melton was most appreciative. Sent another photo for Matt to add to the events calendar spotlight.
I checked Currents. Confirmed info with Hli Vang about the free online Vincent Who? film. Also wrote an abridged version of Ron Marchese's submission.
Checked umdnews and updated story ideas. Lisa Fitzpatrick is out until 7/5 so I pushed back the interactive fish article until 7/12.
Anne Dutton contacted me and I tentatively have a phone interview with her tomorrow afternoon. Rob confirmed Jesse Bodell was fine to interview as an alumn so I sent that info to Cheryl. Christiana has agreed to interview Mark Phillips. Thanks.
I sent scholarship info and copies of past CESHP donor articles to Bob Sherman and cc'd Tricia so hopefully that they can come up with a donor that would like to highlight in the Bridge. Updated the Bridge portion in story docs.
I didnt' get to blog yesterday but I posted a few News Releases and worked on some Wikipedia stuff before trying to meet with Lucy and Cheryl and then going out to film with Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteToday....
