We reviewed upcoming articles. Next week we will put up Jerry Moore, AAAS, and Honors Energy Policy.

We assigned articles that didn't have authors. For the commencement articles we will send to the media, they must be done (perfect and approved) by Friday April 29. They are:

Issac Odim (SCSE) and three student athletes (Mandee)
Jocelyn Larocque (LSBE) and three student athletes (Cheryl)
Profiles on three students - tie in to commencement:
Linh Scally (CEHSP) - Grad student in Social Work (Kathleen)
Brenna Oelfke (CLA) - editor of Honors Program/Journal Aisthesis (Christiana)
Jim Eischen (SFA) - Iraq war veteran - designed lighting for South Pacific (Zach)

Christiana and Kathleen will make sure that the dates on the marketing/communication page and the story ideas google docs are in sync.

Christiana reviewed possible Brief submissions.

Cheryl outlined her Paul Vesterstein article.

Zach and Kathleen are finishing up proofing Currents

  1. Yesterday, April 6, I spent most of the day creating and proofing the NSF document that will be submitted as part of the proposal process. Mandee worked on the abstracts, research e-mails, and photographs sent by many of the professors and scientists from LLO and the UMD campus. Kathleen edited the NSF layout and text. In all, we had a perfect presentation for Cheryl by 3 p.m.

Once the NSF project was complete, I spent time updating my news release file.

John Myers from the Duluth News Tribune contacted me for information in regard to the Frozen Four Championship game. I met with the Alumni Association team and we called several key athletic personnel for a quotation about the tickets sales and the enthusiasm for the Bulldogs (600 tickets sold in less than a day). We contacted Bill Wade and he provided a quotation for the Duluth News Tribune, which I sent to John via e-mail.

I also registered for the Clyde Iron presentation "Leading the Largest, Farthest-Inland Freshwater Port" scheduled for Tuesday, April 12. This should be an excellent opportunity to learn about creative marketing and Public Relations.

  2. Forgot to blog yesterday. I interviewed Emily Gaarder about her new book and worked on that article.

Wrote the 60 words and cropped the photo so the Jerry Moore article could go up on the homepage. Sent the info to Andy.

I will be meeting with John Arthur tomorrow to take pictures and finish up the article.

Added the DNT blog info to the story ideas google doc. The code is UB (for University Blog).

  3. I wrote a rough draft of a speech for the chancellor (https://docs.google.com/a/d.umn.edu/document/d/1jzu1_mEXKrxVAPOVmud0DJdUY0E8LmRH3QhRsroRp8A/edit?hl=en&authkey=CI_S65YD) is where it's located, if anyone needs to see it. You can also edit it from there. I put up posters for Cheryl, and watched the desk for Sheila during our meeting.
