Zach worked with Cheryl yesterday to get pictures of students with ipads. The ipad story is now up. He has to make one correction to a caption. He has his UROP interview on the violence paradox tomorrow. He has been doing some research on the subject. He also put up posters on the holocaust trip study abroad for Cheryl.
Last Thursday, Kat spent time looking for a woman study picture. She has been working on the puppetry UROP article. She is waiting for the student to answer some questions.
Jessica and Kat are working on the alert system story. However the professor hasn't gotten back to them so it will probably have to been pushed back to January. She is waiting for pictures on the Jean Baptiste story. She will be sending the story to his advisor for feedback. Today she was researching Rwanda for Kathleen for an upcoming article. She got the internship with PBS for next semester. She said she'd get us a tour when she is on the "inside."
Kathleen has been working on Currents. The last one for 2011 went out yesterday. She has been working on homepage changes: wrote 25 words, cropped photos, sent the changes, and updated the index. Christiana and Kathleen interviewed Joseph Maiolo yesterday. Kathleen revised the article, Christiana edited it, then sent the link to Joseph. The plan is to put that and the "point to" NRRI article up tomorrow. Kathleen has been getting the student schedules for next semester. Zach will send his as soon as he has it. Kathleen got quotes from John Arthur on Monday and finished her Kenyan UROP article. She sent the link to the student and John for changes. She still hasn't been able to connect with an LSBE UROP student. She's been working with ITSS to get her computer networked to the new color printer and get Matt's computer networked to the old color printer (now in his office).
Sue said that two of the six 15 second videos are done. They will be used by television stations, Amsoil Arena, My Nine, posted on websites and YouTube, and shared with alumni relations, donors, and admissions. Sue would like to have a Red Carpet Event and invite the students who were in the videos. The Branding Task Force meets next Thursday. Invitations have gone out. She would like to do a survey of the campus and the region about UMD branding. The deadline for completion is the end of spring semester but at exactly what stage the process needs to be in is yet to be determined.
Christiana has been working on the Carmen Latterell news release. She has also been working on the American Blues news release. She sent it to Chicago papers and also to alumni relations. She spoke to Lisa in CE about the certifications for gambling addiction and sustainable food. She has a couple of new projects: an award that Swenson labs received and the UMD Women's Hockey Team jersey auction. She had an idea about vlogging (video blogging, not a typo). She is interested in videotaping news releases to use on RSS feeds. People come listen to them in their car. They would also be useful for people who are vision impaired and could be broadcast on KUMD. Sue said to brainstorm about it and talk to Bill Payne and Linda Deneen. Zach suggested talking to Professor Eric H. Olsen who is a former reporter for KARE 11. Sue thought maybe it could be kicked off sometime in January. Christiana set up a brainstorming session with the students on Monday morning.
This week I finished completely the Jean-Baptiste article!! The images have been put into the article and it is now available online.
ReplyDeleteKat and I have still not heard back from Taek Kwon on his ALERT system project so in our meeting today we decided it would be best to leave that project for next month/year.
I did research today for Kathleen's Peace Corps interview she will be doing next week.
We watched the new videos for the school today and they look AMAZING!!! I am so proud to be a UMD student! Great job to whoever got that all coordinated.
As of now I am otherwise open to new project ideas or helping out with whatever else needs to be worked on. I work again on Monday, the same day we are having our VLOGGING meeting so perhaps I can get us started on the research and iron out details for the project once we finish our meeting and decide on some concrete goals! Can't wait for this project to get rolling!
I made the change for the caption on the iPad app story and put it on the website, had the interview with Pospeck for the Violent Media Enjoyment Paradox UROP story, and have a rough draft for the article on it about halfway finished.
ReplyDeleteI don't work tomorrow, so I'll see everyone on Monday for the vlog meeting.
Have a good weekend, everyone!
Hello, I continued to work on the Violent Media Enjoyment Paradox story, and attended the meeting about vlogs. I will talk to Eric H. Olson later this morning, and get back to Christiana and Kathleen with what i find out.
ReplyDeleteThe Violent Media Enjoyment Paradox story's rough draft is finished, I will see if someone can look it over sometime this week, and it will be up for corrections by the time I am out the door on Thursday. I also got my hours for next semester squared away with Cheryl and Kathleen, the workday will have a different flow to it but will still be good. See everyone for the meeting tomorrow
