On Wednesday Kat finished and sent off her puppetry article to be edited again. On Thursday she worked on Winter Bridge articles and did some research on vloging. Monday she finished the information for the Winter Bridge for the AIA Chicago award and the UROP Puppetry story.
Jess worked on updates for the Bridge. She also spoke to Cheryl today about a vlogging internship. Jess will write the press release based on Zach's language ap article.
Kathleen has written the 25 words and cropped pictures for the two articles that are going up tomorrow. She worked with Christiana on making sure that we had the most up to date version of the Professor Chee article. Next Tuesday Kathleen will be interviewing Shawn Grund who is a Peace Corp volunteer in Rwanda.
Christiana is waiting for approval on the hockey ranking article. She will be blogging a couple of stories on the Area Voices site tomorrow. She also is applying for her job and updating her portfolio. She was sorry to say that she couldn't find a professor who would talk about Santa.
Last week I did not blog. Quick review: Monday we held our Vlogging meeting, and I made typo updates to a homepage article. Wednesday I began research on an article for next semester, and put together binders for Betty.
ReplyDeleteThis week: Monday I was unable to make it in. Today I wrote 5 of the updates for The Bridge. I left to take a final, came back and returned the Chancellor's UMD clothes to the bookstore.
I just finished a first draft press release for Zach's Language App article. Edits can be sent to me and I can send them back through Google docs!
It has been a very fun semester, and I have enjoyed working with you all! Everyone have a safe and happy holiday break!
No meeting this week but here is my update. Last week I worked on cleaning out my email in box – all that stuff I never got to that wasn’t time sensitive, just needed to be read some day. I also worked on tweaking the UMD Updates. Wrote the 25 words for the homepage changes for next week and cropped photos.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I sent the homepage changes to Sally and Laura (Andy was out). I updated the Home News Page, adding 2012 to all the pages in the archives. I requested photos from Tom Isbell for the Land of Plenty Bridge update. I got approval from the photographer and emailed the photos to Sara Thomsen for identification of the people in the photos. I started writing the Shawn Grund Peace Corps article yesterday. Today I finished the article and sent it to Christiana for proofing before I send it to Shawn.
I did some research on QR codes and whether the U of M has guidelines for using them. Carrie would like to use one on a development brochure. I didn’t find anything so I sent an email to Sue asking the question.
I have been checking into the Currents and umdnews emails. It’s amazing how many times the Currents email wins a foreign lottery.
Met with Al Mensinger today about scholar athletes--Sue and I had both scheduled an appointment with him so I sat in with her during her meeting. Great discussion, followed up with calling Jenna Ross with a second pitch of the story but have not heard back from her. Matt Vince (scholar athlete) left me a voicemail to schedule a time to chat about his experience as a student athlete with a very high GPA (3.9???). These students amaze me! I'm hoping to meet with Matt sometime next week.
ReplyDeleteWorked on guidelines and procedures for organizing an event (based on my experience with the Ianni Hall rebate news conference).
Edited Kathleen's Peace Corps Homepage story.
Blogged about Eric Swilden on Area Voices.
Ironed out details for upcoming meeting with Bill Payne for the vlogging adventure.
Researched US News and World Report ranking and what it means for UMD (we're 36th regionally if anyone is curious).
And above all else, noticed the quiet and lack of spark with our students still on holiday. Happy New Year, everyone!
Back from break with a busy schedule!
ReplyDeleteI tied up some loose ends on the UROPs I've done in the past, including coming up with headlines for the 75 word summaries of Eye Tracker and Violent Media Enjoyment Paradox. I also made some changes to the V.M.E.P. story itself, online. I will ask more about getting a photo for that tomorrow, and then send a message to Pospeck and Boyd about taking one. Christiana and Kathleen were a lot of help with the headlines, which is still harder than I expect it to be.
I guess I have to get back to that steady blogging thing. On Monday (yes, Monday) I finished the Kenya UROP edit and finished the brief article on Malosky for the Bridge. Yesterday I edited some pieces for the Bridge. I sent all of those either to Matt or gave them back to Cheryl. Cheryl, Christiana and I also reviewed the Bridge and placement of articles. I wrote an article on the Hobey Baker award and got that and three other pieces up on the homepage. Updated the index. Participated in Matt's interview.
ReplyDeleteToday I received photos from Shawn Grund and added those to the article. Attended the all staff. I worked on Currents. I emailed a few departments who haven't yet updated their events calendars for Spring semester to see if they have anything for Tuesday's issue. Worked with Jessica and Zach on their final UROP edits for the Bridge.

ReplyDeleteOh, and Cheryl: I made the changes from 10 to 14 point font to the bridge in WinterBridge1
ReplyDeleteedit: hit a button by accident as I was posting it, and didn't want to mess anyone up with weird extra letters.
Did some research into taconite tailings and a music award for Christiana, may (if I am here; not 100% sure it was within my schedule) attend an interview with the music professor I looked into on Monday.
